Clayco teamed with The Pinyan Company to provide design-build services for a new residence hall at Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. The residence hall is a precast concrete structure totaling 115,700-square-feet with an industrial aesthetic to match the existing campus architecture. The facility houses 500 beds with four beds in most units. Amenities include study rooms, common areas, semi-private baths. A 412–car parking structure was constructed of precast concrete and provides much needed parking for the residence hall as well as the campus at large.

Built in 3 phases on 6 acres, this project was on a congested site with with 2 busy streets and a railroad surrounding the project. Sequencing, site utilities, and keeping Montgomery Hall open during construction made this a challenging project.

Phase one was a new 404 space, 4 level parking garage that was designed and constructed in 3.5 months. It included demolition of a water tower and existing building. Phase II was a state of the art 500 bed residence hall meeting special needs of the interactive design and game development, animation, visual effects and motion media design departments. Montgomery Hall and the parking garage were operational during the construction of the residence hall. Phase III was a renovation to the Montgomery Hall Byte Cafe, addition of a Sushi Bar, and structural renovation to an existing warehouse.

Clayco partnered locally with The Pinyan Company for the duration of the entire project. Specifically, The Pinyan Company provided buyout and site supervision assistance for Phases I and II and provided design-build project management and construction supervision for the Phase III work. The construction schedule for the Byte Café and the Sushi Bar was aggressive in order to open in time for fall classes. The Pinyan team completed the work ahead of schedule and within budget. Their professionalism and teamwork made this effort a very successful partnership.
